2016 Summer Boogie - 30 Years Strong

This December Eastern Illinois ABATE will be 30 years old. What better way to kick off our celebration year than having a GREAT Summer Boogie? Typical to the Boogie norm the weekend didn’t go without a little rain and a little mud. Wouldn’t be Boogie without it, right?

Hats off to Boogie Committee Chair Jerry R. and his hard working Committee for having things ship shape. Things kicked off Friday at 10 AM with the opening of the front gate. Everything was in order and the grounds looked great. Friday night games, always a favorite, and a rockin’ DJ were sure signs that the party was under way. Thank Dan and Aerika for organizing the games this year. We heard more than one camper comment that Eastern always has the best games. The Chapter always appreciates hearing what a good time people have at Boogie.

Rolling Hills woke up Saturday morning to rain. Even though the rain stuck around till mid afternoon it couldn’t put a damper on this bunch of spirited ABATE campers. Eastern’s Rodeo Crew never at a loss for new ideas adapted and put on one heck of a show with their Field Events. Eastern Illinois ABATE’s very first President, Craig Tharp, was on hand to share some inspirational words. It was good hearing from someone who was there at the beginning to remind us that at one point it looked like government was going to have their way with helmet laws and other restrictive legislation.

Once the Field Event trophies were awarded it was time for the Saturday evening festivities.

The sun was setting in the west and the JuJu Kings and 90s Daughter were getting set up on stage to make sure the party kept rocking and rolling. Somewhere along the way there was some entertainment that involved t-shirts and buns. That’s about all we’re going to say about that right here. If you want to know more you’ll just have to make the next Summer Boogie. Although the bands had a rocking good time on stage and the beer pavilion was packed one of the highlights of the evening for many was the tribute paid to current and past President’s of Eastern Illinois ABATE. It was great seeing them recognized as they reminded us what Summer Boogie and ABATE are all about. Dedication to preserving the rights of all motorcyclists.

If you didn’t make it out to the 2016 Summer Boogie you missed out on another great Eastern Illinois ABATE event. Don’t miss out again. Summer Boogie is always the first full weekend in June. So mark your calendars now.
